I am horrified by the war on civilians that is now being waged by President Omar Bashir in the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile regions of Sudan. I am particularly horrified by the aerial bombardment of civilian populations and how the government of Sudan is using food as a weapon of war, preventing aid agencies from responding to the incipient famine in these regions.

I hope, as a leader in the Senate and as a powerful voce for the marginalized people of Sudanese, you will call upon Secretary of State Clinton to respond immediately to this crisis and to advocate that the administration impose a no fly zone along the North South border that would open a corridor from the South for emergency humanitarian assistance, in order to halt forced starvation that is now taking place as the world stands by.
